                 THE FARMER

The farmer works hard every day
He does his best in every way
To grow the crops that we all need
For human food and cattle feed.

Late in the fall and early spring
         Just as sure as anything
He plows the ground so it will be
Ready for the disc you see.

And then he discs the lumpy earth
So roots can grow for all they're worth
And gather moisture way down deep
In case the rain clouds go to sleep.

Then he will plant the seeds in rows
With a skill he only knows.
He drives his tractor 'cross the field
         Hoping for a heavy yield.

And when the autumn time comes 'round
Before the snow is on the ground
         He's busy harvesting his crop
         Hardly taking time to stop.

But when the corn is in the bin
Be it made of wood or tin
You'll find him planning for next year.
We'll all have food, so have no fear.
