TRIBUTE TO JULIEN J. MEYER

COURTING DAYS

Summer 1934

                           TO MY WIFE

How do I know I love you dear? Could someone take your place?
Is it the way you dress my love or just your pretty face?
That makes me want to hold you close and whisper in your ear,
"I love you, love you, love you, love you sweetheart dear".

No, I am sure it's really love, that draws me dear to you,
Because I've put you to the test, no other one will do.
What is this test I'm speaking of, that proves beyond a doubt
That you're the only one for me from east, west, north or south?

Whenever I'm away from you, I'm all choked up inside.
The food I eat just has no taste, and then at eventide
The moon and stars have lost their glow of loveliness it seems,
And when I close my eyes in sleep, you occupy my dreams.

God grant that I may keep you dear, for years and years to come,
That we may live in harmony and prove to everyone
That our love is sincere and pure, one can't get by with less.
True love like ours is what it takes to insure happiness.
